Nutritional Support for foundered or laminitic horses.
If your horse is laminitic or foundered then there is swelling in the laminae, the connective tissue between the coffin bone and the hoof wall. The resulting pain is usually due the softening of this connective tissue, which begins to release the coffin bone from its position within the hoof and allows the bone to begin rotating toward the sole of the foot.
There are several causes and varying degrees of founder, but if not addressed properly, the end result can be devistating... Coffin bone rotation which, if allowed to progress, may pierce the sole of the foot. For horses with founder symptoms use the following suggestions to control environmental influences and give one serving of Founder Free directly on the tongue once or twice an hour for the first four hours, continue 3 times daily until the container is gone.
To limit environmental factors and lesson the risk of further damage, remove the horse from pasture, grains and alfalfa hay and choose a timothy grass or coastal hay or some low starch alternative depending on what is available in your area. Hay can sometimes be high in sugars and can contribute to the problem, to reduce sugar content, soak hay in water for approximately 30 minutes before feeding.
Once improvement is noted, gradually add grain, etc back into the diet. Founder Free could be kept on hand for emergency situations... Catch founder as soon as you can... Coffin bone rotation can be very dangerous, even life threatening.
One container is typically a sufficient amount for one horse.
